College Educatif Excellence
De Mont-Rouis
Building Project: Jan 2008 - Feb 2008

During this trip we added 3 classrooms to the upper level of the Mission School. This allowed us to use one of the classrooms on the first level to expand the cafeteria area. We also replace our charcoal stoves with a quality propane stove system. This is going to enable the cooks to work and prepare food in a much cleaner and organized environment. We would like to thank God and for all of those who opened up their hearts to help with this project.

Lansey House Project
De Mont-Rouis
Jan 2007 - Feb 2008

In 2004, a little girl named Lansey was flown to Missouri to have surgery to treat polyps that had grown in her esophagus which required her to have a tracheotomy. This was obviously not a great situation for her, given the sanitary conditions she was living in at home. Since then, her health continues to improve and she is doing well in school. But, she and her mom lived in very poor conditions in a rented house (a generous characterization). Through the generosity of the friends and family of Hugh and Doris Steele, memorial gifts, following their passing, went towards building a new house for Lansey and her mom. The cost of constructing this house was $4000. We would like to give praise to God for helping out this family. We would also like to thank everyone who donated funds to help build this house.

Building Project: April 2007
Basketball Court

BY THE GRACE OF GOD we were able to move tons and tons of dirt. Our goal was a full court basketball area, to be built next to our school. This project had to be completed in only 5 days. The ground was sloping, and we had no heavy earth moving machinery. With dozens of shovels, picks, and wheelbarrows, we began moving dirt to level the ground. There were lots of volunteer students, totaling 80 or more. Our team from the U.S. totaled 19, mostly made up of young high school age boys. From sun up to sun set, the work went on. The small town of Montrouis lacks basketball courts. The community youth have brought this desire to us countless times. The vision was finally becoming a reality. Over $6000 USD was raised by our work team during the months leading up to the April 16th flight to Haiti. Generous supporters donated this money to complete the purchase of land and provide the project materials. With overwhelming student support, there was sufficient labor. To reward our native school students, dozens of cases of ice cold sodas were purchased each day for refreshment. A surrounding wall foundation was dug; and rocks, block, and sand were wheel barrowed onto the worksite. Soon the mortar mixing began. Buckets of fresh wet mortar were bucket handled using a chain of students directed to the work area. Within days, the sloping land became a level playing area with a wall being mounted on all three open sides. Since the final stages of the project required only skilled masonry men, our work was completed. A huge party was thrown by our team for the 80 some student workers. A meal of chicken and rice, along with games, prizes, and fun activities made a great finale. Educative Excellence de Montrouis now has a full-size basketball court to invite other schools for future sporting events. We truly thank God for this accomplishment.

Building Project: Dec 2006 - Jan 2007

In January of 2007 three classrooms were added to a primary school, called The Institution of Hope, located in Mont Rouis, Dr. Jay and his team performed surgeries, and we ministered and provided humanitarian services to the children of Mont Rouis, Haiti. As you may already know, Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Based on statistics from the World Bank, 78% of Haitians live on less than $2.00 per day and 54% live on less than $1.00 per day. Life expectancy is about 52 years. About 50% of the population is illiterate and due to the lack of funding there are not enough public schools for all the children.

The school we worked on is shown on the right. This pricture was taken prior to any construction. Jean Lamanieri, one of the teachers, is also shown in the picture. We raised $13,719.68 to help out the school and the children in the community of Mont Rouis. Several members of the Life Connection Mission team oversaw this project while they were in Haiti and 100% of the funds went directly towards the project or to help out the people in the community. The cost to provide the renovations to the school was $9,719.68. Additionally, another $1,400.00 over a 6 week period to feed some of the children in the community. Also, another $1,000.00 was used in shipping cost to send clothes, toys, toothpaste, medical supplies and many other much needed items. Lastly, $1,600.00 was used to help some of the families in the community of Mont Rouis. We would like to thank everybody for their kind support. Please see some of the pictures of the school construction below. We have also added some slide shows for those interested in viewing more pictures.

Next, many individuals donated clothes, toys, shoes, and other items which were taken to Haiti. Anything we take or send needs to be in very good condition. Other than the things we are able to take down on a plane it costs anywhere from $1.00 to $2.00/lb to ship these items to Haiti. If anyone wanted to contribute a little bit towards shipping that would be great too. For this project please make your checks payable to LIfe Connection Missions. We will get you a receipt for tax purposes. Write in the memo section “Shipping Cost.” Again, 100% of the funds go directly towards helping the children.

Sandy, a nurse who has gone with the Life Connection Mission team several times to Haiti, helped arrange for the donation of much needed medical supplies from a Veterans Center in Pennsylvania. Sandy's help is much appreciated by the the people of Mont Rouis. These supplies are used to help out the medical teams that go to visit and help out a local clinic located in Mont Rouis.

Additionally, we had several dentists donate hundreds of tooth brushes and toothpaste. Items like this we take for granted are much appreciated. We would like to thank everyone who has helped and who continues to help. Please see our slide show if you wish to see some of these pictures.
